October 23, 2017 Spotlight Tutor-Mentor
This week’s Spotlight Tutor-Mentor is Eiger Tolledo! Eiger teaches math in Scarborough. He is a graduate of U of T with a math major, who is now pursuing a career in education. Eiger is a super enthusiastic and effective teacher, and we’re proud to have him as a member of our team! We asked him a few questions about what makes him such a great Tutor-Mentor.
I absolutely love being able to spend one-on-one time with my students! It allows me to craft the learning so that it is best suited for them. I am able to bring their interests and integrate it to my plans in order to give them an authentic learning experience.
I hope that my passion for math is at the very least contagious! I love gamifying the content and putting it into a context that my students enjoy. It makes the “aha” moments even better as they start to use it in order to get better at the game.
My favourite moment as a Tutor-Mentor is when I showcase how they started with a topic unclear to them, and comparing it to their work when they get it. I love the part where they question what exactly they couldn’t understand before as they try to deconstruct their first answers.
On my spare time I love to play board games with my friends, or just take a relaxing moment enjoying the company of music.
