March 10, 2017 Mentorship Mondays
Every Monday, we like to profile a mentor and mentee relationship between two highly successful and influential people. Mentorship is a vital component of success, which is why our Tutor-Mentors focus on giving their students guidance not only in their academics but in all walks of life.
For all the labels that tend to attach themselves to Steve Jobs, “mentor” usually isn’t one of them. Known for his ruthless yet efficient management style, it was a surprise to many when he confessed his admiration for Mark Zuckerberg, a young entrepreneur who he took under his wing to help navigate the challenging landscape of Silicon Valley.
His guidance had a meaningful effect on Zuckerberg. Asked about the influence of Jobs, Zuckerberg described him as a kind of mentor:
“Early on in our history when things weren’t really going well–we had hit a tough patch and a lot of people wanted to buy Facebook–I went and I met with Steve Jobs, and he said that to reconnect with what I believed was the mission of the company, I should go visit this temple in India that he had gone to early in the evolution of Apple, when he was thinking about what he wanted his vision of the future to be”.
Mentorship is just an important a part of what we do at TutorBright as tutoring. We’re more than a tutoring service, and in addition to giving students homework help with their science and math questions, we give them mentorship in all aspects of life. Our Tutor-Mentors are problem solvers, dedicated to helping students with challenges in their academic lives as well as their social lives.
